Prayer Prompts
Use these prompts to guide your prayer time as we prepare our hearts for Sunday.
Jesus, we come before you in awe of your authority and holiness, recognizing that you command us to go and make disciples because you are the Creator and the sustainer of all things. Help us to reflect on your attributes and empower us to fulfill the Great Commission with confidence, knowing that you are with us always.
God, we ask for the courage to step outside of our comfort zones and engage in difficult conversations, share the gospel with our neighbors, and bring light to the darkness in our city. Shape our hearts to be willing to go wherever you lead us, despite our fears and reservations, so that we may fulfill your mission in our lives.
Hey, Cross Church family and welcome to
the Sunday setup. This is our time each Thursday at 2:00 that we gather
digitally together to pray through a piece of scripture that we will be
preaching through this Sunday so we can prepare our hearts for what God is doing
and prepare us to put this into practice next week. Well, today we continue on in
the great commission and we'll be in Matthew chapter 28. And I just want to
read Ma Matthew 28:1 19 and 20. And this continues to build. Uh we've been
studying through the great commission. In week one, week one, we talked about
how we are fueled by worship to carry out this mission. Last week we talked
about though we are fueled by worship that we're done uh this through the
power of God that we don't go out in our own strength. We go out in the strength
of Christ. Well, this week we're going to look at what the mission is that God
calls us to do. And we say we might know the great commission. It is simple. It
is easy. But sometimes we forget what is the scope of the mission Jesus calls us
to. And in Matthew 28:1 19, Jesus says this, "Go
therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching to observe everything I
have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always to the end of the age."
When we think about the fact that we have this great commission, this great
commandment to go from Jesus Christ, that he doesn't suggest it, he tells us
to go, we first need to reflect on the power, the authority, and just the awe
of our God. And here's our first prompt is Jesus, you tell us to go because
Jesus, you tell us to go because. And I want us to focus on the attributes of
God that Jesus you tell us to go because you are God. Jesus you tell us to go
because you are holy. Jesus you tell us to go because you are are our creator.
Is why Jesus have the authority to tell us to go? Just pray the attributes to
him of why he can tell us to go do something with our lives. Heat. Heat. Jesus, you tell us to go because you
have authority, because you are God, because you are
holy, because you are powerful. Jesus, you tell us to go because you know
what's best for us. You know what's best for our world. You know what's best for
how we are to carry out the truth of our world. Jesus, you tell us to go because
you are truth. You are right and we are not.
God, let us just reflect on the fact that
this command is backed by something so much greater than any other command.
that this commission is given to us by the God, the holy one who forms, who
fills, and who sustains the universe that we live in. God, we go because you
tell us to. But we don't just reflect on the
authority that God has to send us, to tell us being God, but he says, "Go
therefore. Go therefore and make disciples." And often I don't think we
fulfill the great commission because there is reluctance in our heart to go.
Maybe it's going somewhere and sharing our faith with someone we might disagree
with. Maybe it's going somewhere that it's uncomfortable. Maybe we're having
to give up comfort and convenience to step out into something that God is
calling us to do that is risky. And he in this section as we pray on how
how God is worthy and we are to go. Next, I want us uh us to pray through
the willingness for God to shape our heart to go even when we don't want to.
So, here's our second prayer prompt is God,
let me go to God, let me go to share the gospel with my neighbor. God, let me go
to being outside of my comfort zone. God, let me go to have difficult
conversations with my family. God, let me go too. Pray those prayers to our
God. God, let me go to places outside of my
comfort zone. God, let me go to have conversations that are difficult.
God, let me go to share the gospel with those who do not know you. God, let me
go to bring light to the darkness. God, let us go as cross church,
Lord, to the areas of our city where people are hurting. God, let us go
despite our anxiety. Let us go despite our fear. Let us go despite our
reservations. God, let us go despite our comforts in our convenience. God, let us
go beyond mission for whatever you call us to do. Lord, we do this because you
are God. You command it and you have the authority and the power to command it.
But God, we pray for the willingness of our hearts to carry out that command and
to be on mission wherever you have for us.
God, we thank you for this time of preparing our hearts. Lord, we just ask
that you continue to stir in us, that the Holy Spirit continues to move, that
you continue to shape us as we come together this weekend, that Lord, we be
ready to receive your word, and we be ready to practice what you call us to
do. God, we just lift all this up in Jesus' name. Amen. Hey guys, thank you
for joining us. We'll see you this Sunday as we dive into God's word and we
say, "Let's go take his mission to the world around us." We'll see you soon. Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat.
Heat. Heat.
