Sunday Setup – Colossians 3:16-17

0:28 · [music] Hey Cross Church, welcome to the Sunday setup. This is our time [music] each week that we digitally gather together to prepare ourselves for this coming weekend.

0:47 · This Sunday we start a brand new series called rooted and ready and we are going to talk about the rhythms of how do we root ourselves in God's word so that we are ready to make Jesus known in a powerful way.

1:00 · This series is going to be bouncing around through the book of Colossians and this Sunday we'll be looking at Colossians chapter 3 verse 16. We're just going to look at two verses here today as we talk about what it looks like to be rooted in worship.

1:14 · And today we get to pray through this passage in order to prepare our hearts for what God's word will do in our lives [music] this weekend. But it starts here Colossians chapter 3 starting in verse 16. [music] It says, "Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you in all wisdom, teaching and in admonishing one another through psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing God singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

1:42 · And whatever you do, in word or indeed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God the Father through him."

1:54 · And two verses but packed with so many things, so many imperatives that we are to do, but so much stuff about how it changes our behavior. But I want us to start here when we look at verse 16, it just talks about when the word of Christ dwells richly among us. Uh stuff just flows out of that. And there is wise teaching, admonishing, there is [music] psalms, there is hymns, there is spiritual songs, there's just so many aspects of what the gathered church does together in these verses.

2:22 · And I just want to start here.

2:24 · [snorts] It is in 16 that all this is possible because the word of Christ dwells richly among [music] us. So, I want us to take some time and just be thankful for that. And here's our first prompt. Because of your word, thank you [music] that. Just think through this for a second.

2:43 · Because of the word of God, thank [music] you that I get to know truth, I get to know joy. Because of your word, thank you that you have changed my family's life. Because of your word that dwells richly among us, because of your word, thank you that. Pray those prayers to our God.

3:03 · [music] [music] [music]

3:25 · [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] Because of your word, thank you that we have clarity for how we are supposed to live our life.

3:55 · Thank you that we have purpose [music] for the things that we strive for. Thank you that we get to know you, God, and thank you that [music] we just have a lamp into our feet. We have a path that we are to walk to. We don't have to walk around in darkness, but because of the word that dwells richly among you both in this book and in the living person of Jesus Christ.

4:18 · [music] God, that we can know you and our life can be fulfilled. God, thank you for the word. But we don't stop here. It continues on in verse 17, and it's all points to this action, that whatever you do, whatever you do, do it in the name of Lord and give thanks for it. And here's the second prompt. It says, "Do everything."

4:38 · Now, it can be super easy sometimes to just end and be like, "Hey, [music] go do everything for Jesus. Go do everything in his name." But if we're honest, we don't do everything in his name. And if we're honest, one of the reasons we don't do it is because we don't name what everything actually should be. So here's our second prayer prompt to put action into our feet.

5:00 · And for for this to begin to stir in our hearts as we approach Sunday and as we begin to practice this next [music] week is, "Lord, in your name, let me do." "Lord, in your name, let me do." And just start naming things that you need to do. What is your everything in this passage that you need to do for [music] the Lord.

5:47 · [music] [music] [music] [music] Lord, in your name, let us do the things that you have set before us. Let us be the spouses that you have called us to be, the the [music] parents that you have called us to be, the co-workers, the bosses, the citizens, the neighbors. God, let us do the work of the kingdom.

6:26 · In your name, give thanks to you, [music] be transformed by you, and Lord, reflect you in a way that says that the world around us says that there is something different about that person [music] because they have encountered Christ.

6:41 · God, we just thank you for this time as we get to dwell richly in your word, as we get to think of all the things that we do in your name, and Lord, just prepare our hearts as we [music] gather together this Sunday. God, we thank you for all this. We ask that you watch us this week, and you just continue to stir in our hearts. We lift this all up in Jesus' name. Amen.
