>> This is our time each Thursday at 2:00
where we gather together through our
social media platforms to be able to
pray as one church to prepare our hearts
for the passage we'll be diving into
this week.
Today we continue our series through
rooted and ready. And we've talked about
being rooted in worship, rooted in
community. Well, this week we look at
being rooted in discipleship. And our
passage is just two verses, [music] but
two verses just packed full of material.
And we see in Colossians chapter 2
starting in verse 6,
uh we dive right into this text and it
says this,
"So then,
just as you have received Christ Jesus
as Lord,
continue to walk in him,
being rooted
and built up in him, and established in
the faith, just as you were taught,

and overflowing with gratitude."

>> As we talk this week about being rooted
in discipleship, what does it mean to
grow in our faith? What does it mean to
grow closer to Christ? To mature. But I
think it starts here. I want to start
where really that verse ends. This
little phrase he uses is overflowing
with gratitude. If we're honest,
sometimes I think as we mature as
Christians, at times we see how bad the
world is,
uh how far away our world is from God,
maybe how much even our own lives are
full of sin. And sometimes it can make
us cynical. It can make us grumpy.
But Paul says if we're rooted in Christ,
we should be overflowing with gratitude.
So here's our first prayer prompt is
let's have some gratitude.
And just straight from the text here is
Lord, I am overflowing in gratitude
for.
Lord, I am overflowing in gratitude for
my family,
for my church, uh for my job. Is Lord, I
am overflowing in my gratitude for. Just
pray that prayer. That prayer of
Thanksgiving, of gratitude, of joy to
our God. [music]

>> Jesus, we have so much to be overflowing
with gratitude [music]
towards.
God, you have blessed us immensely.
Lord, we should not be grumpy. We should
not be depressed. We should not be
cynical when we look at our world.
Instead, we should be overflowing with
gratitude that you showed us grace.
And we can just share that grace with
the world around us. Lord, let us live
joyful, happy lives that point towards
you. And God, as we do this, uh Lord, it
it tells us where the heart of this
starts.
Why are we so happy? Why are we so
joyful? Why are we overflowing with
gratitude? It's because we are rooted in
Christ and built up in him.
And here's when we talk about being
rooted in him.
We've said all over the series, we have
three roots that we're looking rooted in
worship and community and discipleship.
This is a being rooted in Christ, being
rooted in God's word. And let's just
take a time of praying of all the ways
that we want to be rooted in him and
just pray specifically through things.
Is God,
help me be rooted in
Help me be rooted in you.
Help me be rooted in your word. Help me
be rooted in my prayer life. Help me be
rooted in
worship with my church family.
Is
God, help me be rooted in
Take some time. Pray of how we can
further deepen our roots in Christ.

>> God, just help us be rooted in the work
that you are doing. Be rooted in our
local church.
And ultimately just be rooted in the
gospel, the truth that you are our Lord
and you are our savior. God, let us look
at our world overflowing with gratitude.

Just having a joy in our life that can't
help but to spill to the people around
us. And God, we just thank you for this
time. We thank you for your word. We
thank you for our church family. And
Lord, we just ask that you continue
[music] to wrestle in our hearts and
bring us together on Sunday to be united
in what you have called us to do and
ready to make you known to the world
around us. God, we lift all this up in
Jesus' name. Amen.
