Use these prompts to guide your prayer time as we prepare our hearts for Sunday.
We thank You, Lord, for the gift of community and the people You have placed in our lives. Help us to recognize and appreciate our church family, the ministries we are part of, and the friendships that uplift us. May we always be grateful for the blessings of togetherness and support that come from being rooted in You.
Lord, as we strive to embody the traits of compassion, kindness, humility, and love, we ask for Your help. Reveal to us the areas where we fall short, and empower us to put on patience and forgiveness in our interactions with one another, so that we may truly reflect Your heart in our community.

· Hey, Cross Church. Welcome to the Sunday setup. This our time where we digitally gather together every Thursday at 2:00 to prepare our hearts for the passage that we'll be preaching through this week. And today we continue on in our series rooted and ready talking about how are we a church that is rooted in God's word and ready to make Jesus known. And we continue on through the letter of Colossians. And actually we're doing this a little bit in reverse today. We'll be in Colossians chapter 3 starting in verse 12.
· Uh but last week we read 16 and 17 which really describes a worship service that Paul is kind of pleading and encouraging um to the church at Colasse. Well, we're going to back up to verse 12 and read 12-15 today. And Paul's going to describe what community looks like and how do we be rooted in a community, a church that is honoring to God and growing closer to one another. So this is how he starts in verse 12 of chapter 3 of Colossians says this.
· Therefore, as God's chosen holy ones, dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive.
· Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. And let the peace of Christ to which you were also called in one body rule your hearts and be thankful.
· You hear this picture and just in these small verses here, these four small verses, Paul is describing what we see played out through the New Testament.
· He's describing what the early church started with in Acts 2. He's describing with as this movement continued to start more churches of what does it look like to have a church family? What does it look like to have a group of people that are rooted in community? And in this he ends that in verse 15 says and be thankful. And I think sometimes we are not thankful for the fact that we have other believers other of God's chosen ones that are with us and do life together. So I want us to start with this first prayer prompt is God thank you for. He says be thankful.
· What should we pray about that we need to be thankful for? God thank you for my family. Thank you for my church family.
· Thank you for specific people in the church. Thank you for maybe a serve team that you're a part of. Thank you for a ministry that you get to be involved as.
· Just take that prayer p. God, thank you for and think about the people that God has put in your life, the community that he has rooted you in. Heat. Heat.
· Heat.
· Heat.
· God, thank you for all the good and perfect things that are from you and you alone. God, thank you for the people that you have put in our life. Thank you for the community that you have rooted in. And God, just thank you that we are not alone, but that we get to do this tough life in conjunction with other people. God, just thank you for the many blessings we have that we too often do not give you thanks for. But hear this as Paul uh shows us what we need to be thankful for. But then there's also, I think, how we live out that thankfulness and how we operate within a community.
· And listen what he says. He says, "Put on." He's telling us there are traits that we need to put on. The traits of Christ that we need to put on. And he says, "Put on compassion, unkindness, humility, gentleness, patience. put on bearing with one another, put on forgiving one another, and then above all, put on love. And if we're honest, you go through that list, there's some things that you go throughout your week and you're not putting on. Maybe you're putting on impatience instead of patience. Maybe you're putting on anger instead of bearing with one another.
· And just as prompt, as we begin to be thankful for the community that God has given us, now we pray a prayer of let's change our actions to act more like the community God has called us to be. is Lord, help me put on blank. Which one of these jumps out to you that you need God's help to either be more patient or kind or humble or gentle? God, Lord, help me put on blank. Pray that prayer to our God.
· Heat. Heat.
· Lord, we are your community.
· We are the chosen ones, the holy and dearly loved that you have brought to yourself. God, help us put on compassion, on kindness, on humility, put on gentleness and patience. Put on a bearing with one another. Put on a forgiving one another. And like you say, above all, let us put on the love which unifies us as a community above all else. God, we thank you for your son.
· And we are thankful that the only reason this community is possible is because of his death and resurrection. And Lord, we just ask that as we prepare our hearts for Sunday to gather together as a community this weekend, Lord, you reveal our need for other people and let and Lord, you prompt us, you push us, you convict us to live like your church family. God, we just thank you for this time. We thank you for all of our church family and those who are not part of our church family yet. And we lift all this up in Jesus name. Amen. I thank you for joining us today.
