What if a simple touch could change everything? In Matthew 9, we discover a woman whose faith led her to Jesus for healing. Are we brave enough to seek Him in our struggles? What has He made well in your life? Let's dive in together!
[music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Hey Cross Church family and welcome to
the Sunday setup. This is our time where we digitally gather together each week
to read through our passage for this coming Sunday and to be able to pray
through it so that we can preach through it. We can praise through it and we can
practice it next week. Uh this Sunday we're going to be in
Matthew chapter 9. And well, Matthew chapter 9 uh starting
in verse 20 and we said last week that as we are reading through this passage
[music] where we saw Jesus raise a little girl,
Jairus's daughter, from the dead that in the middle of this story there's
this interrupting story. And this Sunday on Mother's Day we're going to read this
interrupting story and we're just going to read and pray through the account of
Matthew today. But this Sunday we'll also look at it in Mark as well as Mark
gives a more detailed description of the story.
But Matthew gives us the highlights of it and we start in verse 20 and we're
just going to read just these three small verses in 20
through 22. Where it says this in Matthew chapter 9
verse 20. It says, "Just then, in the middle of Jesus on his way to Jairus's
daughter's house says, "Just then a woman who had
suffered from bleeding for 12 years approached from behind
and touched the end of his, being Jesus', robe.
For she said herself, "If I can just touch his robe, I'll be made well."
Jesus turned and he saw her. "Have courage, daughter," he said.
"Your faith has saved you." And the woman was made well from that
[music] moment. It's a short story and as we said, Mark
gives a little more information on it in his account.
But in here, we just see the strong faith of this woman
and then we see the response of Christ. But throughout this, it's all about
we're seeing how hurting and broken she is and how Christ intervenes and makes
something well. And here's our first prompt as we kind
of look at this and just see how great our God is, how great Christ is. In
this, she says, "If I can just touch him, I'll be made well." And then in
verse 22, he says, "Your faith has saved you." And she was well from that moment.
And I want us to think about this idea of being made well.
Is what has Jesus made well in our world?
What has Jesus made well throughout scripture? What does God make well in
the world around us? And that's our prayer prompt it to think about and then
just an offer of praise and thanksgiving is Jesus, you have made well blank.
Jesus, you have made well blank. Praise him maybe for
health things he has healed in your life. Maybe he's made your family well.
Maybe he's made your community well. Maybe he has made this world well when
he created to begin with is what are the things that Jesus you have made well
blank. Just take some time to praise him, to thank him for what he has done
not only through the canon of scripture, but in your personal life. [music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Jesus, you have made well
Lord, our hearts and our soul that we are filled with sin. Lord, that we are
sick, but spiritually you make us well. God, [music] we thank you that you make
us well in our health, in our relationships, and all the good things
we have. When we talk about being well, when we talk about leaving behind all
the hurt and the heartache that so often comes, Lord, that all the greatness, the
wellness, it only flows from you and you alone. And God, we just thank you for
[music] it. And we see in the story, not only do we
seek the Jesus who makes all things well. He is the only one that has the
power to do that. But when Jesus responds to her in verse 22, he says,
"Have [music] courage, daughter. Your faith has saved you."
I love that he says that. She was afraid cuz she thought she may have stepped out
of bounds and maybe did something that would get her in trouble. She was
ceremonially unclean and touches someone and spreads that uncleanness.
But instead, he says, "Have courage." And for our lives, maybe we're going
through hardship. We're going through an anxious season. We're going through a
struggling financial season. We're going through family dynamics that
aren't fun. But what if we have courage?
What if we have courage to prioritize Jesus, to seek him, have courage to keep
pressing through, have courage to bring our family to church even when things
are hard, even if we're going to look like we have problems in our lives that
we don't want to share. Is what would it look like to have courage to do the hard
things that are so easy to ignore, to put away, to hide that our world tells
us to. And that's our prayer prompt that we
thank Jesus, the one who makes all things well, but we also request of him
to be a part of that. So, here's our prayer prompt. Lord, let
me have courage to blank. Let me have courage to confess my sins
to someone else. Let me have courage to admit my
mistakes. Let me have courage to pursue you and and give up something in my
time. Lord, let me have courage to Pray that to our God.

>> Lord, just give us the church the courage as a church to be bold about our
faith, to be honest about our sin, to be
sharing with one another how we struggle, but Lord of the vision you've
given us, the burden you've given us, the commission [music] you've given us
to make you known to the world around us. Lord, let us just have courage to do
the hard things this weekend on Mother's Day. Maybe to
repair relationships that are broken, to be the bigger Christian in the room.
And Lord, let us just have courage to pursue you no matter how we've messed
up, no matter how we've fallen, knowing that you still love us, you welcome us.
God, you will not [music] chastise us, but just as we see in the story, you
will welcome us with open arms [music] as sons and daughters of you. God, we
just thank you for this time. Lord, we just ask that you prepare our hearts as
we come to Sunday and we celebrate our moms and we celebrate those spiritual
women in our lives that have made an impact, but ultimately we glorify and we
worship you through it all. And God, we thank you and we lift all this up in
Jesus' name. Amen. And thank you for joining us today. We
can't wait to see you this Sunday for Mother's Day. Take care.
