What does it mean to go forth in the authority of Jesus? Are we truly ready to share the gospel with our neighbors and communities? Discover how Christ empowers us to fulfill the Great Commission and make His name known. Let's dive in together!
Prayer Prompts
Use these prompts to guide your prayer time as we prepare our hearts for Sunday.
We come together to praise you, Jesus, acknowledging that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to you. We thank you for your eternal power and grace, recognizing that it is through your authority that we find strength and purpose in our lives.
As we prepare to fulfill the great commission, we ask, God, let us go in your authority to our neighbors, workplaces, and families. Empower us to share the gospel boldly, trusting not in our own strength but in the authority of Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Hey, Cross Church family and welcome to
the Sunday setup. This is our time every
Thursday at 2:00 where we digitally
gather together to dive into our piece
of scripture that we'll be studying this
Sunday. We want to take some time to
pray through it just like we'll be
praising through it and preaching
through it this Sunday so we can
practice it next week. [music] Today we
continue on in our series through the
great commission. And as we're in
Matthew chapter 28, uh today I want us
to look at verse 18. And we'll bounce
around a little bit outside of this
verse, but I just want to focus here for
our time today in Matthew 28. [music]
Look in verse 18, right before Jesus
gives the great commission where he's
going to tell them to go and make
disciples and baptize and make Jesus
known throughout the world. In verse 18,
it says this, right before this, says
Jesus came near and he said to them that
all authority has been given to me in
heaven and on earth.
I want us to start this time with just
praising God and a prayer prompt where
we recognize how amazing our Jesus is.
And I think it starts so easy. Starts
right here. This is our prayer prompt is
Jesus, you have authority because that
Jesus, you have authority because you
are God. Jesus, you have authority
because you are the creator. Jesus, you
have authority because you are eternal.
Jesus, you have authority because pray
those prayers to our [music] God.

>> Jesus, you have authority because you
are the ultimate God. You are the
savior, the only savior who could come,
who could die for our sins, who could
raise again to defeat [music] death and
show us a new life. God, you are a you
are authoritative, Lord. You have
authority, Jesus. Your name is above all
other names because there is no one like
you. [music] You are holy. You are
blameless. You are eternal, God. And you
are graceful, Lord. Your authority is
different than all other authorities we
see in our world. In this verse again,
Jesus says that all authority has been
given to me. And he says in heaven and
on earth. Right now, we don't live in
heaven. One day hopefully we will see
heaven when we confess Jesus as our
Lord. Believe in our heart that he has
saved us. But on this side of earth,
Jesus still has authority. And in this
verse, before he gives the great
commission, he's going to send them out.
But he's not sending them out upon their
own authority. He's sending them [music]
out upon his authority. And here is our
prayer prompt. As we think of the great
commission, [music] as we think of how
we are to go in this series, as we say,
let's go in this next two years. Let's
go fulfill the great commission. Here's
our prayer prompt [music] is God, let us
go in your authority, too. God, let us
go in your authority to my neighbors.
God, let us go in your authority to my
workplace. God, let us go in your
authority to my family. God, let us go
in your authority [music] to pray those
prayers specifically of who we need to
share the gospel to in this [music]
season and the next.

>> God, let us go in your authority
in our personal lives, God, in our
families.
in our communities. God, let us go in
your authority in our cities, God, in
our state. God, let us go in your
authority as we start more churches,
Lord, as we fulfill the great commission
one church at a time, God. Let us not go
in our strength. Let us not go in our
wits. Let us not go in our strategy. Let
us not go in fill in the blank. God, let
us go in your authority and your
authority alone. God, we thank you that
you have given us the great commission.
But Lord, we thank you that it is not
upon our power, but we are empowered by
you. We are empowered by God, our
savior, our Jesus Christ, to go and make
Jesus known to the world around us.
Lord, we thank you that you have chosen
us, that you have allowed us to be a
part of your will. And God, we just lift
all this up in Jesus' [music] name.
Amen. Hey, thank you guys for joining us
today. Let us go in the authority of
Jesus this week and let us gather
together this Sunday and dive into God's
word. Take care. [music]
