Uh Matthew is straight and to 1:17 · the point uh in this particular miracle 1:21 · and uh he gives us three verses and Mark 1:23 · and Luke expand on our text this morning 1:27 · a little bit more. So, we're going to 1:28 · focus in on Mark's account. So, Matthew 1:32 · 9:20 and then also Mark 5 beginning at 1:36 · verse 25. 1:39 · Happy Mother's Day. 1:43 · Thank you to all you mothers. And from 2:10 · the bottom of my heart, I thank you for 2:14 · your service and for your role that you 2:18 · play in discipling our children. May you 2:20 · all be uh Titus 2 women. Um is my prayer 2:25 · for all of the women here at Cross 2:26 · Church. Everyone a Titus 2 woman. 2:32 · Well, if you're new with us, uh we're in 2:34 · a series going through the miracles of 2:36 · Jesus. 2:39 · The main purpose of Jesus miracles has 2:42 · never been the miracle in and of itself. 2:46 · Though they're awesome and incredible, 2:49 · the main purpose of Jesus miracles was 2:53 · always to reveal his authority 2:58 · over both the natural and the spiritual 3:02 · realm. 3:03 · Jesus Christ has authority over 3:06 · everything. 3:09 · And this morning we come to the second 3:12 · miracle in a in a two miracle passage. 3:16 · If you remember last week we focused on 3:19 · the raising of Girus's dead 12year-old 3:23 · daughter. Gyrus had come to Jesus. He 3:27 · said my daughter is dead but if you come 3:33 · you can raise her. And if you remember 3:37 · from last week, as him and the disciples 3:39 · and the rest are going to Gyrus house, 3:42 · there's an interruption. There's a pause 3:46 · in the story, 3:48 · and that's what we're going to focus on 3:50 · this morning. The wonderful, beautiful 3:52 · faith of an outcast woman. Let's pray. 3:55 · Father, we thank you for this morning. 3:58 · We thank you for your word. 4:02 · And now God, I just pray 4:06 · for everyone in here. 4:09 · I don't know what everyone's going 4:10 · through. 4:14 · I don't know how painful this day might 4:16 · be. 4:20 · But God, I pray 4:22 · that you would touch the lives of your 4:25 · people this morning. 4:28 · that you would show them love, your 4:30 · grace, your mercy, your kindness towards 4:33 · them. 4:36 · I pray God that you would give us eyes 4:38 · to see, ears to hear what the Holy 4:41 · Spirit has to say to the church here at 4:44 · Cross Church in Jesus name. Amen. 4:48 · Well, if you are able to, let's stand as 4:51 · we read God's word together. If you're 4:54 · not, that is totally fine. You can stand 4:56 · with us in spirit. It's about the heart 4:58 · postured towards God's word. But the 5:01 · standing is just a resemblance of our 5:03 · reverence for his word. And we're going 5:04 · to read Matthew 9 20-22 and also a 5:09 · passage from Mark 5 beginning at verse 5:12 · 30 is where I'll be reading. So the word 5:15 · of God says this. Just then, or behold, 5:20 · a woman who had suffered from bleeding 5:23 · for 12 years approached from behind and 5:27 · touched the end of his robe. For she 5:30 · said to herself, "If I could just touch 5:34 · his robe, I'll be made well." Jesus 5:38 · turned and saw her, "Have courage, 5:40 · daughter." He said, "Your faith has 5:45 · saved you." 5:47 · And the woman was made well from that 5:49 · moment. And picking up in Mark 5 5:52 · beginning at verse 30, it says this. 5:55 · Immediately Jesus realized that power 5:58 · had gone out from him. He turned around 6:02 · in the crowd and said, "Who touched my 6:04 · clothes?" His disciples said to him, 6:07 · "You see the crowd pressing against you, 6:10 · and yet you say, "Who touched me?" But 6:14 · he was looking around to see who had 6:16 · done this. The woman with fear and 6:20 · trembling, 6:22 · knowing what had happened to her, came 6:24 · and fell down before him and told him 6:29 · the whole truth. 6:31 · Daughter, he said to her, "Your faith 6:35 · has saved you. Go in peace and be healed 6:40 · from your affliction." Amen. Thanks. You 6:42 · can be seated. 6:50 · In Romans 4 verse 18, 6:55 · Paul uses a curious, 6:58 · interesting phrase to describe Abraham's 7:03 · faith. 7:05 · Paul says, "Abraham 7:08 · hoped against hope. 7:13 · hoped against hope. 7:17 · And if you have a handout, you'll see 7:19 · that's our main heading this morning. If 7:20 · you don't, they're on the tables in the 7:21 · back. Hoping against hope. 7:26 · What does it mean to hope against hope? 7:32 · How did Abraham 7:35 · hope against hope? Well, if you 7:38 · remember, God back in Genesis promised 7:42 · Abraham and Sarah would have a son. 7:47 · This son would come from Abraham and 7:49 · Sarah, not anyone else. Abraham and 7:53 · Sarah. 7:55 · The promise came, God's promise to 7:57 · Abraham came when Abraham was 75 years 8:01 · old. 8:05 · Sarah is 10 years. his junior. So she is 8:08 · 65. 8:11 · They waited and waited for the promised 8:15 · child. And as they waited and waited, 8:18 · they got older and older. 8:22 · Every year that passed seemed to be a 8:24 · year the promised child never came. 8:29 · As much as they tried, Sarah remained 8:31 · childless 8:33 · until Abraham was 100 years old, meaning 8:39 · Sarah was 90, 8:43 · well past normal childbearing years. And 8:48 · having been barren for 90 years, 8:54 · it would be easy to lose hope. 8:58 · 25 years of waiting, 25 years to lose 9:03 · hope, 25 years to lose faith. But 9:07 · Abraham didn't lose either one. 9:11 · Which leads Paul in the New Testament to 9:14 · describe Abraham's faith in Romans 4:18, 9:18 · saying in hope against hope, he 9:22 · believed. 9:26 · It means hope against hope. It means 9:30 · that against all odds, against all human 9:35 · reason and logic, against the 9:38 · hopelessness of the situation, Abraham's 9:41 · faith remained strong and he believed 9:45 · God. 9:48 · And that child Isaac eventually came. 9:50 · That's hope against hope. 9:55 · The woman in our text this morning is 9:58 · another example 10:00 · of hoping against hope. So the first 10:04 · thing I want you to see is this. Number 10:05 · one, the reality of our hopelessness. 10:10 · The reality of our hopelessness. 10:15 · Because this story simply begins with 10:18 · the reality of her hopelessness. 10:22 · She bled for 12 years. 10:27 · Imagine that for a moment. 10:30 · Her issue of blood would render her 10:33 · ceremonially unclean constantly. 10:39 · Every day she woke up 10:44 · would be another day she's automatically 10:47 · unclean. 10:49 · And not only that, everything she 10:52 · touches, everyone she touches would be 10:57 · unclean also according to the Old 11:00 · Testament law. 11:03 · And she sought help. The other gospels 11:06 · tell us she sought help from many 11:11 · doctors. Every doctor she could find. 11:16 · She spent every penny she had to get 11:19 · help. You want to know what she got in 11:22 · return? Worse. That's what she got. The 11:25 · scriptures specifically say she spent 11:27 · everything, every cent she had and got 11:30 · worse. 11:34 · The last thing 11:37 · that would make sense is to go to a 11:40 · Jewish rabbi whose background is in 11:43 · carpentry. 11:50 · One of the reasons that this scene is so 11:52 · beautiful and so wonderful is because 11:57 · there is a great contrast between Jirus 12:02 · and this woman. 12:04 · And that's why every gospel writer that 12:06 · documents this keeps it the same way. 12:09 · You have Jarus comes to Jesus begging 12:12 · for him to raise his daughter back to 12:15 · life. Then an incident in between on the 12:18 · way the woman comes and then back to J 12:20 · Iris because all of the gospel writers 12:23 · want you and me to see something. J Iris 12:27 · as a synagogue ruler would be wealthy. 12:32 · She, as we know, spent every penny on 12:35 · doctors and got worse. She's poor. 12:40 · He Gus would be highly esteemed and 12:43 · respected as a synagogue ruler. She 12:46 · would be rejected. 12:50 · He would be honored. She would be 12:53 · ashamed. He led the synagogue. 12:57 · She would be exccommunicated from it 13:00 · because of her hemorrhage making her 13:03 · constantly, persistently unclean. 13:07 · He experienced the joy of raising a 13:12 · daughter for 12 years, the gift of a 13:15 · daughter. She experienced misery for 12 13:19 · years as a social outcast due to her 13:23 · condition. 13:26 · What do they have in common? 13:30 · Coming to Jesus Christ in their 13:33 · brokenness. That's what they have in 13:36 · common. That's what unites them. 13:41 · And though it's Mother's Day, this ain't 13:42 · just two mothers or women. Have you 13:46 · experienced a time in your life 13:50 · where you felt utterly hopeless? 13:54 · Complete hopelessness. 13:58 · Maybe that's right now. 14:01 · Maybe you dread these days 14:05 · or other holidays like Christmas and 14:07 · Thanksgiving and or Father's Day because 14:11 · all they are are reminders 14:14 · of those 14:16 · who've passed. 14:21 · Maybe you feel alone. 14:24 · This woman would be well acquainted with 14:26 · loneliness 14:29 · as a rejected social outcast. 14:34 · Maybe you feel abandoned. Those who were 14:38 · supposed to love you left you. 14:42 · Maybe you had big plans in life. 14:47 · No doubt I could venture to say in those 14:48 · days especially the uh importance and 14:52 · desire uh uh for children. She would 14:55 · likely have wanted children being 14:56 · desperate for children but no one will 14:58 · marry her in this condition. 15:02 · Maybe she had big plans. Maybe you had 15:04 · big plans and then the accident happened 15:06 · or the diagnosis came or you got the 15:08 · phone call and everything came crashing 15:10 · down. 15:14 · Hoping against hope doesn't ignore the 15:19 · reality of our pain and suffering or 15:23 · hopelessness. 15:26 · What hoping against hope does do is it 15:29 · faces it head on with our second truth, 15:32 · the reality of our hope in Christ. 15:36 · That's what it does 15:39 · in Mark 5:27. So, if you're not in Mark, 15:42 · if you would turn over to Mark 5, 15:44 · beginning at verse 27. Now, we'll camp 15:47 · there the rest of our time. 15:51 · In Mark 5:27, we read, 15:56 · I love the sound of of papers turning. 15:58 · Just kind of stop and listen to it for a 16:00 · sec. But 16:03 · the next gospel over chapter 5, Matthew, 16:06 · Mark, 16:08 · and in Mark 5:27, we read this woman 16:13 · heard the reports about Jesus 16:16 · probably because he's started his 16:19 · ministry now. He's been doing some 16:20 · things here and there. He's already 16:21 · causing a ruckus. The Pharisees already 16:23 · hate him and think he's a blasphemer and 16:26 · all this, but word is spreading about 16:28 · Jesus. She probably heard the reports of 16:31 · his miracles and healings. 16:34 · Now remember, 16:36 · she is constantly unclean. 16:41 · And she would know, she knows she's not 16:45 · supposed to be out touching everybody 16:48 · because Old Testament law said anyone or 16:50 · anything she touches is made unclean. 16:53 · That was Old Testament law. Now, that 16:56 · was supposed to be for a period of time, 17:00 · 5 or 7 days or whatever, and then they 17:02 · were brought back in. This is persistent 17:05 · 12 years. 17:08 · She has been dealing with this, meaning 17:11 · she's an outcast. 17:16 · She knows she's not supposed to be out. 17:18 · She's lived for years in loneliness, 17:20 · pain, and sorrow. And yet yet she hears 17:23 · about Jesus and says, "I'm going to him. 17:27 · I'm going to him and I I don't need 17:30 · much. I just need to touch 17:35 · a touch of his garment and I'll be made 17:38 · well." And that is hoping against hope. 17:42 · That is faith. 17:45 · Because what this shows us is that 17:47 · against all odds, all human logic and 17:50 · reason, no doctor can fix her. She went 17:54 · broke trying to find a doctor who could 17:57 · do something. And though no one could do 18:00 · anything, she believed Jesus could. 18:06 · Hoping against hope says, "No matter 18:09 · what's going on right now in my life, 18:13 · how much it hurts, how sorrowful I am, 18:16 · how alone I feel, if I can just be in 18:20 · the presence of Jesus Christ, I'll be 18:24 · made well. I'll be okay. 18:28 · If I can just be with God, 18:32 · my life will be made whole. 18:37 · That's the reality of our hope in 18:40 · Christ. 18:43 · How does that look in your situation? 18:47 · Do you just give up? Throw the towel in? 18:51 · Tired of dealing with this? Throw your 18:53 · hands up in the air and say, "I'm done. 18:55 · Peace out. See you later." done with 18:57 · this whole Christian thing, this whole 19:00 · church thing. 19:03 · Uh, I'm done. 19:06 · Jesus hasn't taken away. God's not 19:08 · helping me out. Um, I'm throwing in the 19:11 · towel. 19:14 · Or do you run to Christ and you look at 19:18 · your situation and say, "I need Christ 19:20 · more. I need church more. 19:25 · I need the gospel more. I need Bible 19:28 · reading more. I need my prayer life 19:31 · more. I need my devotional life more 19:34 · because of this situation that I'm in. 19:41 · I can't imagine. Can you just imag how 19:44 · many times this woman probably wanted to 19:46 · give up on life? 19:50 · We give up on for much less, right? 19:55 · a hangail or something. No, I'm just 19:56 · kidding. 20:02 · And yet she doesn't. 20:04 · She heard about Christ and just ran to 20:07 · him. The reality of her hope in Christ 20:11 · is just as real as the reality of her 20:14 · hopelessness without him. 20:18 · And that same hope in Christ is 20:20 · available to you and to me, to us. 20:26 · And this leads me to my last point. This 20:28 · is incredibly important. The reality of 20:31 · our peace with God. 20:33 · The reality of our peace with God. If 20:37 · you look down at from Mark 5, if you 20:39 · looked at verse 30, 20:42 · verse 30, 20:44 · Jesus perceives 20:47 · power has gone out of him, 20:53 · out from him. 20:56 · You see what's happening here? She 20:58 · touches him. Jesus 21:01 · senses in himself, "Power has gone out 21:03 · for me." Here's the thing. She in 21:05 · touching him didn't make him unclean. He 21:09 · made her clean. 21:12 · The opposite happened because of the 21:14 · power that's exuding from Jesus Christ. 21:18 · She is made clean by his power. 21:23 · And so Jesus asks, you know, who touched 21:24 · me, right? Who touched me? And of 21:28 · course, we know that Jesus knows who 21:30 · touched her. This is not a mystery to 21:34 · Jesus. He is doing this on purpose. 21:36 · Everything Christ does is intentional of 21:38 · course, but this serves a specific 21:40 · purpose. And so the woman comes in fear 21:44 · and trembling, falls down before Jesus. 21:46 · Our word for worship in Greek, prouneo, 21:48 · falling down on your face, 21:51 · is used over and over. She falls down, 21:54 · prostrates herself 21:57 · in fear and trembling. in fear and 21:59 · trembling before Jesus had told him the 22:01 · whole truth. Then Jesus looks at her and 22:05 · says, "Daughter, 22:07 · glorious, right, daughter, 22:10 · your faith has saved you." Listen, don't 22:16 · forget that 22:18 · your faith has saved you. Go in peace. 22:21 · Don't forget that. 22:23 · And be healed from your affliction. 22:29 · Why is Jesus doing this? Pointing her 22:32 · out, calling her out. Is he being mean? 22:34 · Is he trying to embarrass her? No. No. 22:36 · No. No. No. No. No. No. No. This is 22:38 · grace and mercy beyond anything we can 22:42 · imagine. Jesus just changed her life and 22:46 · made it public. 22:49 · She is declared healed publicly. That is 22:54 · mercy. That's a gift. You know why? 22:58 · Because she would have a reputation. 23:01 · People would know who she is. 23:05 · And she hadn't been able to hug someone 23:09 · for years. No one wants to touch her 23:11 · because of this. And Jesus publicly 23:15 · declares that she is made well, that she 23:18 · is healed. She can go worship now. She 23:21 · could touch people and things and not 23:23 · make them unclean anymore. She's free. 23:25 · She could hug someone 23:28 · and not make them unclean. People would 23:32 · not be afraid to embrace her anymore. 23:36 · People would keep her at an arm's 23:38 · length. Now she is clean. 23:43 · Now you need to see something extremely 23:45 · important. 23:47 · There are different words in Greek for 23:51 · being healed or made healthy. 23:55 · or cured. 23:57 · There's therapo, 24:00 · which sounds like what it is, right? It 24:03 · sounds like our word therapy. That's 24:05 · where we get it from. Therapuo. 24:08 · This word means simply to be healed or 24:10 · cured. 24:12 · In Matthew uh 4:23, 24:15 · uh Matthew uses that word to describe 24:18 · Jesus's general healing ministry. 24:21 · Matthew 4:23 says, "And he went 24:23 · throughout all Galilee, uh, teaching in 24:25 · their synagogues and proclaiming the 24:26 · gospel of the kingdom and healing every 24:28 · disease and every affliction among the 24:30 · people." He just went around healing 24:32 · everybody, most everybody. His general 24:34 · healing ministry. He went about healing 24:37 · and curing things, people is what he's 24:39 · telling you. Then there's this word 24:42 · yomi. 24:44 · Yomi, which is basically a synonym to 24:48 · therapo. It also means to be healed or 24:51 · cured. 24:53 · I am specifically repeating healed and 24:56 · cured in English to show the point that 25:00 · these words are basically synonyms are 25:02 · interchangeable just like therapuo and 25:04 · yomi are. If I said somebody was healed 25:08 · from their cancer or if I said they were 25:11 · cured from their cancer, you might be 25:13 · like, "Oh, that's that's like saying the 25:15 · same thing or I was healed from a broken 25:16 · leg or cured." It's, yes, there's little 25:19 · nuances, but it's generally saying the 25:21 · same thing. That's these two words. 25:25 · And here's what I want you to see in 25:27 · Mark 5:29. 25:30 · It's the word yomi 25:33 · where it says she sensed in her body is 25:37 · key in her body that she was healed. 25:40 · Yomi of her affliction. What this simply 25:44 · means is she's been cured. Healed. the 25:47 · flow of blood stopped physically 25:52 · in her body. That's what that means. 25:56 · Then there's the word soozo. 26:00 · Soozo. And you say, "So what, DJ? I'll 26:02 · tell you." So what? I'll tell you. So 26:04 · what? So 26:07 · this word means to be saved or slash in 26:12 · right relationship with God. 26:16 · This is very key. 26:20 · This is the word Jesus uses in Mark 5:34 26:27 · when he says, "Your faith has saved 26:30 · you." So, you may have a translation 26:32 · that says like healed her or made her 26:34 · well. 26:36 · The CSB got it right when they said 26:38 · saved you because that's what it means 26:40 · literally to be saved. It's used all 26:42 · over the New Testament. 26:45 · What this is saying is simply this. Yes, 26:48 · she's been healed physically. Oh my. 26:51 · Cured of a physical blood flow. But what 26:54 · Jesus is saying is that more has 26:57 · happened than physical healing. 27:00 · That's what he's saying. Her faith in 27:03 · Christ saved her. 27:07 · Look at Mark 5:34. 27:10 · Look at verse 34. Mark 5. Jesus is 27:13 · treating the two events separately. Two 27:17 · things have happened. So really this is 27:18 · a two for one miracle. A physical and a 27:21 · spiritual miracle. He says Jesus does 27:25 · your faith has saved you. Go in peace 27:28 · and be healed of your affliction. You've 27:32 · been saved 27:34 · also. You've been healed. Go. 27:39 · Jesus is saying she's saved and healed. 27:41 · You have both yo my and so you have 27:45 · physical and spiritual healing. 27:48 · That's why listen. That's why he says go 27:54 · in peace. Did you know that Jesus only 27:58 · says go in peace to those who have 28:00 · saving faith in him? 28:05 · He doesn't say that to everyone that 28:08 · gets healed. 28:10 · For example, in Luke 7, Jesus is invited 28:14 · over to a Pharisees house for dinner. 28:18 · His name is Simon the Pharisee. 28:23 · A woman, different woman, a woman hears 28:27 · Jesus is at this Pharisees house, 28:29 · Simon's house, and she goes in. You 28:32 · might recognize the story when I start 28:33 · to describe it. She goes in with an 28:35 · alabaster flask of oil 28:39 · and she begins weeping at Jesus' feet. 28:44 · And so in Luke 7, her tears are wetting 28:50 · Jesus' feet. And so if you remember, she 28:52 · begins to wipe Jesus' feet with her 28:56 · hair. 28:58 · Oh, when the Pharisee, Simon the 29:00 · Pharisee, saw it. He says, 29:03 · um, if Jesus were a prophet, he'd know 29:05 · what kind of woman this is. So, she had 29:08 · a reputation, too. We don't know what 29:09 · she was. Maybe a prostitute, maybe some 29:11 · kind of sinner of some sort. But the 29:14 · Simon says if Jesus were a real prophet, 29:17 · he would know. He wouldn't let this girl 29:20 · touch him. And right now, she's wiping 29:23 · his feet with her hair. Jesus ain't 29:25 · legit. That is the Pharisees um 29:28 · assessment of the situation. And Jesus 29:30 · looks at Simon and says,"Simon, I got 29:32 · something to say to you." That ought to 29:35 · get your attention, right? If Jesus 29:36 · looks you in the eyes, says, "I got 29:37 · something to say to you. Listen up." 29:40 · Right? And then Jesus shares a parable. 29:42 · You can read that on your own with 29:44 · Simon. And turns to the woman and says, 29:49 · "Your faith has saved you." So, 29:54 · go in peace. 30:00 · The reality is this. 30:03 · You can be, I can be, we can be 30:06 · physically healed and still spiritually 30:10 · dead and have no peace with God. 30:15 · Peace with God is only found in Jesus 30:21 · Christ. 30:23 · It is repeated over and over in the New 30:25 · Testament. When Jesus was risen from the 30:30 · dead 30:32 · and he was appearing to people, he would 30:35 · say over and over like on repeat, right? 30:37 · Peace be with you. Peace be with you. 30:42 · Paul in his letters would often put 30:45 · grace and peace together. He would say, 30:46 · "Grace and peace be with you to the 30:49 · churches in Jesus Christ." 30:53 · First Peter uh 5, Peter says, "Peace to 30:56 · all of you who are in Christ." 31:02 · John in his letter 2 John 3 just as a 31:05 · sample he says grace mercy and peace 31:07 · will be with us from God the father and 31:10 · from Jesus Christ the father's son I say 31:15 · that to say this here in our passage 31:17 · Jesus is pointing out 31:22 · that not only did this woman receive 31:25 · physical healing but that her faith in 31:28 · Jesus saved her eternal eternally and 31:31 · she now has peace with God. The more 31:35 · important miracle. 31:41 · Do you have peace with God this morning? 31:45 · Do you 31:49 · do you have peace with God this morning? 31:54 · I could ask that question another way. 31:56 · Are you in Christ this morning? 31:59 · Because if you're not, you don't have 32:00 · peace with God. Just plain and simple. 32:08 · The most important thing this Mother's 32:10 · Day is having peace with God. You say, 32:13 · "What's the message from Cross Church on 32:15 · this Mother's Day?" Um, be in Christ. 32:18 · Get saved. That's the message. 32:23 · That's the most important thing. When 32:25 · Jesus uh healed 10 lepers in Luke 17, uh 32:30 · he he sent them to go show themselves to 32:33 · the priests. He heals 10 lepers. It 32:36 · says, "Go show yourselves to the 32:38 · priest." And only one only one came 32:42 · back, it says, and gave glory to God. 32:45 · Let me describe this. The one who came 32:47 · back fell at Jesus' feet. Sound 32:50 · familiar? Like the woman did. And 32:52 · thanked him. And Jesus is like, this is 32:55 · my paraphrase, right? Um, were there not 32:58 · 10 cleansed? 33:01 · Where's everyone else? 33:04 · No one's returning to give glory to God 33:07 · except this one guy. 33:10 · And then Jesus looks at the one leper 33:12 · who was healed and came back and says, 33:15 · "Get up and go your way. Your faith has 33:20 · so saved you. 33:23 · Don't miss it. He was already cleansed 33:25 · of his leprosy like the other nine. He 33:28 · was already cleansed of leprosy, 33:33 · but he wasn't saved till he came back to 33:37 · the feet of Jesus, believed, and had 33:40 · faith in Christ, and gave glory to God. 33:46 · He's the only one who is saved. 33:50 · 10 were healed. one was saved from his 33:55 · sin. Don't miss it. Don't miss it. 34:00 · The leper was changed both outside and 34:02 · inside just like this woman. She's not 34:04 · just cured. She is changed. She is 34:07 · saved. Her encounter with Christ both 34:10 · physically and spiritually changed her. 34:13 · Because the truth is this. You cannot 34:16 · cannot did I mention you cannot have a 34:19 · genuine encounter with Jesus and leave 34:22 · the same. 34:24 · You can't. 34:28 · You may not have a 12-year hemorrhage, 34:31 · but all of us, every last person 34:34 · listening to my voice in this room or 34:36 · online either is or w is or was lost in 34:40 · the hopelessness of sin. 34:44 · And you can try every which way you want 34:48 · to free yourself from the burden of your 34:51 · sin. You won't be able to do it. Spend 34:53 · all the money you want finding release 34:56 · from your sin. You can't buy it. You 34:59 · can't earn it. You can't do it on your 35:01 · own. No more than she could get rid of 35:05 · her disease on her own. 35:09 · She couldn't rid herself of this. She 35:11 · couldn't pay to get it done. She had to 35:13 · come to Christ. 35:16 · We need Christ to save us from sin. 35:21 · And if you don't know him this morning, 35:23 · come to him. Pour your heart out to him. 35:25 · Cry out to him for forgiveness of your 35:28 · sin. Cuz that's our primary need. 35:32 · I said this last week. I'm going to say 35:33 · it again. That is primary. 35:36 · Yes, we come to him and we pray for 35:38 · healing. We pray for comfort in loss, 35:40 · all of those things. Yes and amen. But 35:42 · our primary need is salvation from sin. 35:48 · The biggest miracle of this whole 35:50 · incident is her forgiveness and her 35:52 · salvation from her sin. 35:56 · Her her physical healing is secondary 35:58 · just like the paralytic, right? Your 36:00 · sins are forgiven. What? Yeah, I forgave 36:03 · you of your sin. Well, I'm still 36:04 · paralyzed. Yeah. And then Jesus gets to 36:06 · that one later. But the first primary 36:11 · miracle was that Jesus saved the 36:14 · paralytic from sin and then healed him 36:17 · of his paralysis. That was secondary. 36:19 · Just like this woman, her healing 36:21 · physically is secondary to her 36:23 · spiritual. 36:25 · And like this woman left changed. You 36:28 · can leave here changed. 36:31 · And you say, "Well, I'm too far gone. 36:32 · I'm too sinful. My life's too much of a 36:34 · mess." DJ, you don't know the depths of 36:37 · the sin I'm in. I'm in the deepest 36:39 · trenches of sin. God can't save me. Oh, 36:42 · yes, he can. 36:44 · Oh, yes, he can. 36:48 · Hope against hope. 36:55 · against all human logic, against all 36:58 · reason, human reason, against all odds, 37:01 · against the reality of death for J. Iris 37:03 · and his daughter, or against the reality 37:06 · of an incurable hemorrhage for the 37:07 · woman. They both came to Christ and left 37:12 · changed 37:13 · inside and out. 37:16 · And could I plead with you to not leave 37:20 · this Mother's Day unchanged? 37:24 · We have fun. We celebrate our moms. We 37:27 · got treats in the back. We've got child 37:29 · dedications. It's great. But if you 37:32 · leave here unchanged, 37:36 · what's the point? 37:41 · And if you would like to meet with me in 37:42 · the back after service, you can come 37:44 · find me. I'd love to talk with you about 37:47 · your greatest need and your 37:48 · hopelessness, 37:50 · Jesus Christ. 37:54 · And we have a wonderful opportunity this 37:56 · morning to dedicate our children to 37:59 · Christ. 38:01 · And so I want to invite now um the 38:04 · Wiznooki and the Ramos family um Madison 38:07 · and Virgil to come on down and join me 38:10 · here on the stage real quick. 38:17 · Yeah. 38:26 · You guys want to come right up here? 38:30 · We have Madison Whiz Newski and Justin 38:33 · and Lily. And then we have Mr. Virgil 38:38 · Ramos and Sarah and Gabe. 38:42 · Um, one of the things I love about the 38:46 · scriptures is, I mean, I love everything 38:48 · about the Bible, don't get me wrong, but 38:49 · I love in Genesis 18:19, God tells us 38:53 · why he chose Abraham. 38:56 · And he says this in Genesis 18:19, he 38:58 · says, "I have chosen him." The Lord 39:00 · says, "For I have chosen him that he may 39:02 · command his children and his household 39:07 · after him to keep the way of the Lord by 39:10 · doing righteousness and justice so that 39:15 · the Lord may bring to him may bring to 39:18 · Abraham what he has promised him." He 39:21 · chose Abraham 39:23 · for the specific purpose 39:26 · of training his children in the ways of 39:29 · the Lord. And this carries over into 39:32 · Deuteronomy 6:es 5-7 39:35 · where it says this, "You shall love the 39:37 · Lord your God with all your heart and 39:39 · with all your soul and with all your 39:41 · might. And these words that I command 39:44 · you today shall be on your heart." And 39:46 · then it says this. This is the 39:49 · expectation. 39:51 · You shall teach them diligently to your 39:54 · children. 39:56 · You shall teach them diligently to your 39:59 · children. 40:01 · And shall talk of them when you sit in 40:03 · your house and when you walk by the way 40:05 · and when you lie down and when you rise. 40:07 · That is a Hebrew way of saying all the 40:09 · time. All the time. 40:12 · When they're as happy as that or not. 40:15 · Just kidding. Yeah. This they're doing 40:17 · great. You guys are awesome. 40:20 · And uh to round us out in the New 40:22 · Testament, Paul says in Ephesians 6:4, 40:24 · he says, "Fathers, fathers, fathers, do 40:27 · not provoke your children to anger, but 40:30 · bring them up in the discipline and 40:32 · instruction of the Lord." 40:36 · So, as we dedicate these children to the 40:38 · Lord, uh not only are the parents making 40:41 · a commitment, but we as a church are 40:43 · making a commitment to these families. 40:47 · And so first I'm going to read a series 40:49 · of uh commitments the parents are 40:51 · making. Ready? All right. These are the 40:54 · commitments. 40:59 · As the parents of these children the 41:00 · Lord has given us in the presence of our 41:02 · church family. We promise to commit the 41:05 · gift of our child to God 41:08 · acknowledging they belong to the father 41:11 · and it is our privilege and 41:12 · responsibility to care for them. Every 41:15 · good thing we have comes from God. And 41:18 · our child belong to God before they ever 41:21 · belong to us. 41:23 · We promise to pray for our child's 41:25 · conversion to Jesus Christ as their 41:28 · personal Lord and Savior and call upon 41:30 · the power of the Holy Spirit to enable 41:33 · us to provide nurture, care, and 41:37 · guidance to our child in the ways of the 41:39 · Lord. 41:41 · We promise to be an example for our 41:43 · child as we seek to obey God and his 41:45 · word with our lives. 41:48 · We promise to make being part of the 41:50 · body of Christ a priority as we raise 41:53 · our children in God's church. We promise 41:56 · to discipline or disciple and discipline 41:58 · our children and train them up in the 42:00 · nurture and admonition of the Lord. So 42:03 · parents, are you making this commitment 42:05 · to dedicate your children to the Lord in 42:08 · this way? 42:10 · They said yes. I know they don't have a 42:12 · mic, 42:15 · but it's not just a one-way street, 42:16 · right? That's they are dedicating their 42:18 · children and making a commitment to them 42:20 · publicly. But the flip side of that is 42:23 · that we as the church are also making a 42:26 · commitment to them, to these families. 42:29 · So, I'm going to read a series of 42:30 · commitments that we as a church are 42:32 · making as well. And as a church, in the 42:34 · presence of these parents, we 42:36 · acknowledge that these children are 42:38 · gifts from God. And it's our privilege 42:40 · and responsibility to help these parents 42:42 · care for them. 42:45 · We commit to praying for our children uh 42:47 · for for these children's salvation and 42:50 · that they would come to know Jesus as 42:52 · their personal Lord and Savior at the 42:54 · earliest possible time. And we commit to 42:57 · be the loving church that these 43:00 · dedicated children need and to be 43:02 · examples for them as they grow up. And 43:05 · we promise to help these dedicated 43:07 · children follow the Lord's will with 43:09 · their lives. So church family, 43:12 · if you are joining me in this 43:15 · commitment, will you stand together with 43:17 · me and extend your arm out in our 43:20 · direction, in their direction as we pray 43:22 · over these families. 43:25 · Let's pray. Father, we thank you uh we 43:28 · thank you for these children. We thank 43:31 · you for the blessing 43:34 · of Virgil and Madison. 43:38 · They are a gift from you. Children are a 43:40 · gift, a heritage from the Lord. 43:44 · And so we dedicate them to you, Lord. We 43:47 · pray even now 43:50 · that you by the power of the Holy Spirit 43:54 · would draw these children to you 43:58 · to bring them to faith and trust in 44:00 · Jesus Christ that they would too would 44:02 · see 44:04 · their need to turn away from their own 44:06 · sin and come to Jesus Christ. We pray 44:10 · for these parents right now, God, that 44:14 · they would lead their families well. 44:18 · We pray that you would be the number one 44:21 · priority in their home. 44:24 · And God, we pray that as a church, we 44:27 · would come alongside them in this 44:30 · wonderful privilege and honor to raise 44:33 · up our children in the nurture and 44:36 · admonition of the Lord. 44:39 · We thank you and we praise you in Jesus 44:41 · name. And all God's people said, 44:43 · >> "Amen." Amen. Amen. Well, we have 44:51 · we have Baby's New Testament with the 44:55 · Psalms. So, we've got Virgil here. And 44:58 · you want the blue one right here. Right 45:01 · there. And Madison. And here's that. 45:06 · Amen. Right. Amen. 45:11 · I want to uh invite the worship team up. 45:13 · You guys can step on down. Thank you. 45:16 · And um let's stand as we uh I know you 45:19 · guys just sat uh but let's stand up as 45:21 · we sing our last song.
