Have You Heard of the Steadfastness of Job?
Job 22-27 · Week 7
Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested meI will emerge as pure gold..
The Big
Question
What does it look like to endure steadfastly when suffering drags on?
Start get started.
James writes that we have heard of the steadfastness of Job, assuming his readers knew the book. This week is round three of the boxing match, where Eliphaz and Bildad make their last appearances and Zophar stays silent.
Job faces false accusations, a God who feels distant, wicked people who seem to prosper, discouragement, and the question of who is in control. Through all of it, he endures.

Job 22
Enduring false accusations
Eliphaz assumes God is correcting Job for sin, then falsely accuses him of abusing the poor, widows, and orphans. When we are innocent, all we can do is stay faithful and trust that God knows our hearts, without repaying evil for evil.

Job 23-24
Enduring when God feels distant
Job cannot sense God in any direction, yet says God knows the way he has taken. Feelings change, but God is unchangeable. Job also sees the wicked seem to prosper and pours out his frustration, but finally acknowledges God will bring judgment.

Job 25-27
Enduring by trusting God's sovereignty
Bildad calls man a maggot, a right message for the proud but the wrong one for Job. Job answers by focusing on God's majesty, then trusts God's sovereignty. Jesus' story of the rich man and Lazarus shows why we need not envy the wicked.
Enduring Truth
Our feelings change, butGod is unchangeable, so we endure by trusting His sovereignty.
