seat. 15:37 · As you do so, we're going to step into a time of prayer here. 15:40 · We'll focus our time together in on Psalm 147 today. 15:44 · There's three separate sort of ideas or concepts that are mentioned in the first six verses here of Psalm 147 15:51 · that will guide our time together today. 15:53 · I'll just read all six verses as we prepare to pray. 15:56 · Psalm 147 begins over verse one by saying this. 15:59 · Hallelujah. 16:01 · How good it is to sing to our God. 16:05 · For praise is pleasant and lovely. 16:08 · The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem. 16:11 · He gathers Israel's exiled people. 16:14 · He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. 16:18 · He counts the number of the stars and he gives names to all of them. 16:23 · Our Lord is great, vast in power. 16:26 · His understanding is infinite. 16:29 · The Lord helps the oppressed but brings the wicked to the ground. 16:33 · As we step into an intentional time of prayer here, we're going to focus in on just that first verse. 16:39 · It says this. 16:40 · Hallelujah. 16:40 · How good it is to sing to our God. 16:43 · For praise is pleasant and lovely. 16:45 · Two things I want you to consider as we step into this time of prayer. 16:48 · Number one is I want to encourage you to think through some of the different things 16:53 · that you have or experienced, had happened, whatever the case may be, 16:58 · that you can praise God for. 16:59 · And second, I want you to think through maybe things that might come to name 17:03 · names of God, characteristics of God, attributes of God that we can praise him for. 17:08 · So let's start as we think about this first verse 17:12 · simply thanking God for who he is and what he's done in our life. 17:15 · Let's pray through that now. 17:47 · Let's pray. 17:52 · The second thing that we see in this passage is a reminder from verses two and three. 17:57 · The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem. 18:00 · He gathers Israel's exiled people. 18:03 · He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. 18:06 · One of the realities of a gathering like this is that as we gather collectively, 18:12 · there's undoubtedly plenty of us that are carrying broken hearts 18:17 · that are walking into a room like this with wounds. 18:20 · Whether it's things we can see or heavy burdens that we carry internally, 18:25 · the reminder is that we have a God who rebuilds Jerusalem, 18:31 · gathers exiled people, heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. 18:36 · That gives us hope today. 18:38 · As a matter of fact, what we'll see in Job 15 through 21 18:41 · is that there is hope to be found even in the midst of dark, dark seasons. 18:46 · In this second prayer prompt, here's what I want to encourage you to focus in on. 18:51 · As we look at these verses, we're reminded that God can heal us and change us. 18:55 · Let's ask specifically that God would heal and change our hearts 19:00 · first before we step into this next prayer prompt. 19:02 · Let's ask now God to heal our hearts. 19:45 · Let's ask now God to heal our hearts. 19:59 · Last thing that we see in terms of prayer is found in verses four through six. 20:03 · He that is God counts the numbers of the stars and gives names to all of them. 20:10 · Just take a pause here to remind you that the God of the heavens 20:15 · who is plentiful in His love for us, 20:16 · who has placed the stars in the sky, 20:18 · knows the exact number of them and has named them, 20:21 · also cares about you. 20:23 · So when it comes to this opportunity for prayer, this last one, 20:27 · I just want to remind you that the God that we serve is big, 20:31 · He is capable, He is powerful, 20:33 · and He cares for us. 20:36 · What we find at the end of verses four through six 20:38 · is this reminder that the Lord helps the oppressed 20:41 · and brings the wicked to the ground. 20:43 · What I want to encourage you on is simply an invitation to join me in prayer 20:48 · that God would move powerfully in our city. 20:50 · We know that in a room like this and all across the West Valley 20:53 · there are plenty of people that would say they are oppressed. 20:57 · And so we're going to pray for them, 20:58 · but we're also going to pray that God would bring the wicked to their knees 21:01 · for the sake of His glory, 21:03 · that the kingdom would advance all across the West Valley. 21:06 · So let's pray through that now. 21:08 · God, we come before you. 21:09 · And God, as a church here on the corner of Peoria and El Mirage, 21:11 · we simply ask that you would move powerfully in the West Valley. 21:15 · God, that as we have family members and friends and neighbors 21:20 · and coworkers and all kinds of people that we come across daily, 21:23 · God, we know that there are plenty of people 21:25 · that are brokenhearted, that are oppressed 21:27 · or that are wicked and falling to the ground, 21:29 · and God, we ultimately ask that you would move powerfully 21:31 · in each of those situations. 21:33 · God, today we pray in the West Valley 21:36 · and here in this room that you would be glorified in our midst 21:39 · and that you would move powerfully. 21:40 · We pray all this in your name. Amen. 21:42 · Let's stand as we continue in worship. 22:10 · It's beauty in our tears 22:16 · And you meet us in the morning 22:23 · With a love that casts our fear 22:30 · You are working in our waiting 22:36 · You sanctify us 22:43 · When beyond our understanding 22:50 · You're teaching us to trust 22:55 · Your plans are still a prospect 22:59 · You have not forgotten us 23:02 · You're with us in the fire and the flood 23:09 · You're faithful forever 23:13 · Perfect in love 23:16 · You are sovereign over us 23:21 · You are our witness 23:27 · You are wisdom on our imagine 23:35 · You could understand your ways 23:42 · Riding high above the heavens 23:47 · Put you down in endless grace 23:55 · You're the lifter of the wind 24:03 · Compassionate and kind 24:09 · You surround the new home for me 24:14 · And your promises are my delight 24:21 · Your plans are still a prospect 24:25 · You have not forgotten us 24:29 · You're with us in the fire and the flood 24:35 · You're faithful forever 24:39 · Perfect in love 24:42 · You are sovereign over us 24:52 · You are sovereign 24:59 · You're faithful for us 25:14 · Even when the enemy is free 25:17 · You turn it for our good 25:21 · You turn it for our good 25:25 · For your glory 25:27 · Even in the valley of the fall 25:32 · You're working for our good 25:35 · You're working for our good 25:38 · For your glory 25:42 · Even when the enemy is free 25:45 · You turn it for our good 25:49 · You turn it for our good 25:52 · For your glory 25:55 · Even in the valley of the fall 25:59 · You're working for our good 26:03 · You're joined us today. 31:34 · If we haven't gotten a chance to connect yet, 31:36 · my name is Tyler, 31:36 · a service pastor here at Cross Search El Mirage. 31:39 · And we're so glad that you joined us today. 31:40 · If we haven't gotten a chance to connect, 31:42 · I'll be outside after the service 31:44 · and would love to connect with you there, 31:45 · talk through maybe some next steps 31:47 · and ways that we might be able to connect as well. 31:50 · Well, hey, if you got a Bible today, 31:51 · we are gonna use it. 31:53 · We're gonna start in Job chapter 15. 31:56 · As you make your way there, 31:58 · I'm gonna catch you up to speed. 31:59 · If you're joining us maybe for the first time 32:01 · or the first time in a while, 32:02 · here's the reality. 32:04 · As we look at Job chapter 15, 32:06 · we're in this series through the book of Job. 32:08 · And if I was gonna make it as simple as possible, 32:10 · I would tell you that the book of Job, 32:13 · at least thus far, 32:15 · is the opposite of sunshine and rainbows. 32:18 · That's the best way for me to describe it to you. 32:20 · It's been dark and difficult and dreary 32:24 · is the best way for us to put it. 32:26 · Now, you'd ask me, 32:27 · how do we get to Job chapter 15? 32:29 · Well, it starts in Job chapter one 32:30 · when we have God and Satan, 32:32 · who are talking together. 32:33 · And here's the interaction that we find 32:35 · in Job chapter one. 32:37 · God gives Satan permission to tempt Job. 32:42 · However, the only restriction given 32:44 · is that Satan can't take Job's life. 32:47 · He has to spare Job his life. 32:49 · However, everything else is on the table. 32:51 · And that's exactly what we see happen 32:53 · beginning in Job one, 32:55 · is that Satan takes everything from Job. 32:58 · And so Job begins this process of grief and sorrow 33:01 · and all of the things that you would expect naturally. 33:05 · And it's in Job chapter two where his friends come, 33:07 · they comfort him, 33:07 · they sit with him for seven days and nights 33:09 · without saying a word, 33:09 · they just comfort him quickly. 33:12 · And then from there, 33:14 · what we find is that Job's friends 33:17 · start to have interactions with him. 33:19 · We go through each of the friend's 33:20 · individual interactions. 33:21 · We ended last week with what we would call 33:24 · the harshest friend. 33:26 · But what we find is that most of those first 33:29 · interactions have been very caring. 33:31 · And then we find ourselves today 33:33 · beginning in chapter 15 and things kind of take a turn. 33:39 · The scene turns, the mood shifts. 33:42 · And so here's what we're gonna do today. 33:43 · We're gonna look at Job beginning in chapter 15 33:45 · all the way through chapter 21 quickly. 33:47 · And what we're going to see is what this scene 33:49 · that we find here, 33:50 · the second round of speeches offers us. 33:53 · And so if you'll read with me, 33:54 · starting in Job chapter 15, 33:55 · read just a few verses to set the mood 33:58 · for our time together today. 33:59 · Job chapter 15 says this. 34:02 · Then Eliphaz the Timonite replied, 34:05 · does a wise man answer with empty counsel 34:07 · or fill himself with the hot east wind? 34:10 · Should he argue with useless talk 34:13 · or with words that serve no good purpose? 34:16 · But you even undermine the fear of God 34:19 · and hinder meditation before him. 34:22 · So it would suffice to say that Eliphaz, 34:24 · as he starts his second conversation, 34:26 · the second series of speeches with Job, 34:28 · gets really honest and Job does the same 34:32 · beginning in chapter 16. 34:33 · Here's what he says in verse two. 34:36 · The Job answered, I have heard many things like these. 34:38 · You are all miserable comforters. 34:42 · So it would suffice to say 34:45 · that where things were friendly to start, 34:48 · they have shifted and changed in Job 15 and 16 34:51 · and that the second round of speeches 34:53 · offers us a distinct mood or moment. 34:57 · So as we look at today's text, 34:59 · there's going to be three things specifically 35:01 · that we see this scene offer us. 35:03 · The first is this scene offers us 35:06 · a shift in the friendship. 35:08 · I don't know if you guys have ever had this moment 35:10 · or this chance where a friendship has changed. 35:14 · Longer ago than I care to admit 35:16 · when I graduated high school, 35:18 · I had people in my life tell me, 35:20 · you will never see most of these people ever again. 35:23 · And you know what, it's true. 35:25 · People that I thought I was gonna be friends with 35:27 · for the rest of my life, 35:29 · neither of us have picked up the phone, contacted each, 35:31 · we've just never talked to each other. 35:33 · And it's this interesting reminder 35:36 · that sometimes there's a shift in the friendship. 35:39 · Some people that I've been friends with my entire life, 35:41 · it's taken an entire life to build 35:43 · and later you have inside jokes 35:45 · and you have connection, all of these things. 35:48 · But sometimes it takes time to build 35:50 · and there's in different friendships, 35:52 · this shift that takes place. 35:54 · In this conversation that we're looking at here, 35:57 · here's what we see. 35:59 · Job and his friends change. 36:03 · They change. 36:04 · Where what we find is care dominated 36:08 · the first three rounds of the speeches 36:10 · or the first three speeches. 36:12 · It's a very caring environment. 36:13 · Even the harshest friend is still relatively caring. 36:16 · It's a very care dominated conversation 36:19 · to start the first round of interactions. 36:21 · And what we see highlighted here 36:23 · in the second series of speeches 36:25 · is that the shift in the friendship 36:27 · reveals that tension is building. 36:30 · Tension is building. 36:31 · Whereas previously the friends would say, 36:34 · I'm sorry, that's happening to you. 36:35 · Have you considered this angle? 36:36 · Have you thought of this? 36:38 · They now begin to push directly back against Job 36:41 · saying, no, this is wrong. 36:44 · And it's in this that we find 36:46 · what real friendships are made of. 36:49 · Here's the litmus test for you 36:52 · and a friend's relationship. 36:54 · You need the type of friends that Job has, 36:56 · but you also need the type of friends 36:58 · that will tell you when you got 36:59 · a piece of spinach in your teeth, all right? 37:01 · I don't know if anybody is like this. 37:03 · Anybody, when you see somebody sitting across from you, 37:04 · they got something in their teeth, 37:05 · do you call them out? 37:07 · Anybody? 37:07 · Anybody else, you just let them ride. 37:09 · You're like, I'm not gonna deserve the piece. 37:11 · All right, no peacemakers in the room. 37:13 · They won't, all right, that's fair, that's fair. 37:14 · Here's the deal. 37:15 · We see a litmus test in that of friendship, 37:19 · but here in Job 15 and 16, 37:21 · what we find is that these interactions 37:24 · are getting more and more tense. 37:26 · Job's friends are telling him the truth. 37:29 · As a matter of fact, to Job chapter 16 verse three, 37:31 · he says this, is there no end to your empty words? 37:35 · What provokes you that you continue testifying? 37:39 · As a matter of fact, Job and his friends 37:40 · are getting almost adversarial at this point. 37:43 · And this tone shift or this change 37:47 · is reflected in the content that they're sharing. 37:51 · You see Job's friends go from just saying, 37:53 · that's things that's happening to you, 37:55 · to no, here's some actual things wrong with you. 37:58 · Eliphaz actually says this here. 38:00 · He says you undermine the fear of God. 38:03 · They are giving him actual deep theological complaints 38:06 · about what his actions are, 38:08 · and it changes their conversation. 38:11 · As you looked out scripture, 38:12 · you see multiple ways where this has happened historically. 38:16 · If you look back at a guy named King David, 38:19 · there was a woman in his life named Bathsheba, 38:21 · and he committed a grave sin with her, 38:24 · and not only did he commit one grave sin, 38:26 · but he compounded that, 38:27 · trying to get out of the first sin 38:28 · by committing more sin. 38:30 · So he just compounded it. 38:32 · And it's in 2 Samuel chapter 12, 38:34 · where God sends someone to tell David the truth. 38:38 · His name's Nathan, and in 2 Samuel 12, 38:40 · Nathan tells David this little interaction. 38:43 · He says, I'm gonna tell you a little story. 38:45 · He tells him the story at the end. 38:46 · David says, wow, that's terrible that that happened. 38:48 · That guy should get in big trouble. 38:51 · And Nathan says, and that guy is you. 38:53 · You are the guy in the story. 38:55 · And it's in this moment, 38:57 · where David looks back at Nathan, 38:59 · and he says this phrase verbatim. 39:00 · He says, I have sinned against God. 39:03 · You see, if I were to give you anything 39:05 · out of this first, second series of speeches, 39:08 · this first couple interactions, 39:09 · it's this, that while there's a shift in the friendship, 39:13 · one of the things that we notice 39:15 · is that in our friendships, 39:18 · we need people that are willing to call us out. 39:22 · We need some friends that are willing to tell us 39:25 · when we're doing something dumb. 39:27 · Furthermore, when we're doing things 39:30 · that undermine the fear of God. 39:32 · We need a few friends willing to tell us the truth. 39:36 · And that's what Nathan did for David. 39:37 · He told David the truth. 39:39 · As a matter of fact, he was a prophet. 39:40 · He did it on behalf of God in order, 39:43 · not just for David to be called out, 39:45 · but for David's relationship with God to grow through it. 39:50 · I was looking back throughout history, 39:52 · and one of the guys who's pretty famous 39:53 · throughout history for his friendships is Abraham Lincoln. 39:58 · You guys remember Abraham Lincoln? 39:59 · Tall, black hat? 40:01 · Well, he's known for a few things. 40:03 · Number one, he's known for being honest. 40:04 · He never told a lie, I guess, 40:06 · which I feel like is a lie, 40:07 · but that's a different conversation. 40:08 · You have Abraham Lincoln. 40:10 · Now, here's what Abraham Lincoln did 40:11 · that was very unique in his day and age. 40:14 · When he was elected president, he set up his cabinet. 40:18 · Now, fast forward to 2026, when presidents are elected, 40:21 · their first move is usually to fill their cabinet 40:24 · with all their friends and people 40:25 · that think like them and vote like them. 40:28 · Now, here's what Abraham Lincoln did that was different. 40:30 · When he was elected president, he filled his cabinet 40:33 · with people that thought differently than him. 40:36 · Now, some of us would look back and say, 40:39 · that's not a recipe for success 40:41 · because you'll just, you'll be adversarial. 40:43 · There's no way you'll get things done. 40:45 · However, here's what happened 40:47 · during Abraham Lincoln's presidency. 40:50 · It was those interactions where the people 40:52 · that thought differently than he did challenged him, 40:56 · and he began to grow a friendship with them. 40:59 · And it was in that friendship 41:01 · where those people changed Abraham Lincoln's framework. 41:04 · It changed the way that he viewed his presidency, 41:08 · the choices that he made, 41:10 · and what it did is it made for a stronger country. 41:13 · What I wanna encourage you on today 41:15 · is that a shift in the friendship 41:17 · may also lead to the second thing 41:19 · that we see in this text. 41:21 · It's a shift in the framework, a shift in the framework. 41:25 · Job says this, he says, 41:27 · is there no end to your empty words. 41:29 · But he says this in chapter 16, verse four. 41:32 · If you were in my place, I could also talk like you. 41:36 · I could string words together against you 41:38 · and shake my head at you. 41:40 · Instead, I would encourage you with my mouth, 41:42 · and the consolation from my lips would bring relief. 41:45 · You see, Job is shaped 41:48 · by the conversations he's having. 41:50 · His framework, the way in which he's viewing 41:52 · his suffering is shaped by the conversation 41:55 · that he's having. 41:57 · And I would tell you this today 41:58 · as we walk through this interaction of Job 42:00 · in the second series of speeches. 42:01 · It's this, how we see suffering shapes how we endure it. 42:08 · Let me explain that a little further. 42:10 · As you look back at the first round of conversations 42:13 · that Job has with his friends, 42:15 · one of the things that his friends 42:16 · constantly bring up is this. 42:19 · Well, Job, you're suffering 42:20 · and God has done these things to you 42:22 · and it must be as a result of your sin. 42:25 · Which means this, if we were gonna simplify this idea, 42:28 · you earned the struggle you're facing. 42:32 · Now I will tell you this, 42:34 · if your framework of life is that you today 42:36 · are facing suffering because you earned it 42:38 · by your bad choices, 42:40 · then the only logical conclusion should be 42:43 · that on your own you must make better choices 42:45 · to fix it yourself. 42:48 · However, that's not what we see laid out in scripture. 42:51 · The second thing we find is that 42:53 · as we view suffering in our lives personally, 42:55 · we can see that we maybe earned it 42:57 · and have a view of that. 42:59 · But the second thing that we can see 43:00 · as Job does is we can see suffering 43:03 · as something that just happens to us. 43:06 · Something that's just happening to us. 43:08 · And what is Job's reaction as he views suffering 43:11 · as something just happening to him? 43:13 · He just sulks. 43:16 · As a matter of fact, 43:16 · if I were gonna give you common language, 43:18 · I would say that Job for the first 12 chapters here 43:22 · of these speeches is throwing himself 43:24 · a personal pity party, 43:26 · complete with balloons and a sign. 43:29 · And he's throwing this pity party 43:31 · and that's his framework. 43:33 · As a matter of fact, you'll read this in his language. 43:35 · He would say, I wish that I wasn't even born. 43:39 · It'll continue because he'll say even things 43:41 · like he wishes that he could go down to Sheol. 43:45 · What he'll say here is this sort of interaction 43:48 · where in chapter 17, he would even say it this way. 43:52 · Chapter 17 verse 15, where then is my hope? 43:55 · Who can see any hope for me? 43:58 · Will it go down to the gates of Sheol 44:00 · or will we descend together to the dust? 44:04 · You see Job is facing suffering 44:07 · and his view is that there is no hope. 44:12 · Everything is miserable. 44:13 · As a matter of fact, in these conversations, 44:15 · one of the threads that Job brings in 44:17 · is it seems like destruction comes to both the righteous 44:20 · and the unrighteous just the same. 44:22 · So he says, what's even the point? 44:25 · He says, is there any hope? 44:28 · Do you see any hope for me? 44:30 · He begins to use this interesting language 44:32 · which might be worth highlighting. 44:34 · In chapter 17 verse 16, he says the gates of Sheol 44:37 · which is an Old Testament understanding 44:39 · essentially to say death or the end. 44:43 · He's saying basically this. 44:45 · Can we just fast forward to the end of life? 44:48 · There's no hope. 44:49 · Can we just go to the end 44:50 · or will we descend together into the dust? 44:55 · Job is so over it. 44:58 · But one of the things that we find 45:01 · who we talked about often 45:03 · is that our faith should be deeply rooted 45:06 · so that what's happening around us 45:09 · doesn't shape the faith that's in us. 45:12 · Our faith isn't dependent on what's going on around us. 45:15 · Our faith should be rooted in our framework. 45:19 · I think of Joseph in the Old Testament, 45:21 · a guy who just to take his entire story 45:23 · and put it into one sentence 45:25 · faced high highs and low lows. 45:28 · There were ups and downs and ups and downs 45:30 · and that's just the story of his life. 45:32 · Ups, downs, high highs, low lows. 45:35 · And it's through all of that 45:37 · that he maintains a faith that's consistent. 45:41 · My encouragement or reminder to you today is this. 45:44 · Is that as we view suffering, 45:47 · we should view suffering or difficulty 45:50 · as something that God is using to shape us 45:53 · in order that we grow through the suffering. 45:57 · It's easy just to view the suffering as the suffering 46:00 · and to say I just need to grit my teeth 46:03 · and tough it out. 46:04 · However, the question we should be asking 46:06 · is what is God doing in us during this season? 46:10 · What is God trying to teach us in this season? 46:14 · Now you and I have a benefit. 46:16 · We have a blessing, all right? 46:17 · We are not in the middle smack dab 46:20 · of Job and his interactions. 46:22 · We have the lenses of 2026. 46:25 · So we get to look at the end of the story 46:27 · and here's what we see at the end of Job's story. 46:30 · At the end of Job's story we see 46:32 · that God is going to double 46:34 · and just blow away Job's expectations. 46:38 · He's going to bless him richly. 46:41 · But Job's in the middle of the fight 46:43 · and he can't see it through the fog of war. 46:45 · He doesn't know what's coming at the end 46:47 · and all he sees is death and destruction and despair. 46:52 · He loses sight of the framework. 46:55 · So what I encourage you on today 46:56 · is the question to ask in the middle 46:58 · of your suffering is this. 47:00 · What is God doing in this 47:02 · or through me in this season? 47:04 · We should always be asking the question 47:06 · of what God is shaping in us 47:09 · instead of wondering mostly what is happening to us. 47:13 · The second thing or the third thing, excuse me, 47:15 · that we'll see as we look through this text 47:17 · is a very important one. 47:18 · There's a shift in the faith here. 47:21 · There's a shift in Job's faith. 47:25 · In Job's interaction, it's been all death, 47:28 · darkness, despair, difficulty, trouble, all bad. 47:32 · It's all darkness, he says. 47:34 · But what we find is he has a little moment here 47:37 · where his faith is growing. 47:40 · As we look at it, lots of bad, 47:42 · but there's a hint of good. 47:43 · It reminds me of a story that happens 47:45 · in Mark chapter nine. 47:47 · You see, Jesus is having this interaction. 47:50 · And he's healing a man's son. 47:53 · And just to catch you up, 47:55 · in Mark chapter nine, verse 23, 47:56 · Jesus said to him, if you can, 47:59 · that's where the man has asked him, 48:01 · Jesus, if you can, would you heal my son? 48:03 · In verse 23, Jesus said to him, 48:05 · if you can, question mark, 48:06 · everything is possible for the one who believes. 48:10 · And in Mark 924, we have this interaction 48:12 · that I think is so helpful for us today. 48:14 · Mark 924, immediately the father of the boy cried out, 48:17 · I do believe, help my unbelief. 48:20 · Now this phrase in and of itself is complicated at best. 48:26 · I do believe, help my unbelief. 48:29 · If you're just simple and logical like me, 48:31 · you would say, if you believe, 48:32 · there should be no unbelief, amen? 48:34 · Like, no, those two things don't go together. 48:36 · However, the truth of our faith is this. 48:39 · When we believe in Jesus, 48:42 · it doesn't mean that everything is perfect, easy, 48:45 · 90 degree angles, everything's nice, perfect, and simple. 48:49 · There are some moments where we are wrestling in our flesh 48:53 · against who God wants us to be and who we want to be 48:57 · versus who we actually are. 48:59 · As a matter of fact, we'd see it in scripture 49:00 · where Paul would say, the things I want to do, 49:02 · I do not do. 49:03 · And the things I do not do, I want to do. 49:06 · It's this wrestling that Paul describes 49:08 · that we see here in Mark chapter 9, 49:10 · where the man says, I do believe, help my unbelief. 49:13 · He's saying, I still have some of this struggle in me. 49:17 · And Job is a man who's not going to sin, 49:20 · but who is going to wrestle. 49:23 · He is going to, as a matter of fact, 49:25 · as his friends would say, 49:26 · would challenge his belief in God. 49:29 · But here's what we find. 49:32 · In Job 19, 25, there's this phrase. 49:37 · But I know that my Redeemer lives. 49:39 · And at the end, he will stand on the dust. 49:43 · So check this out. 49:45 · All of Job's interactions in the second series of speeches, 49:47 · life is bad, you guys are terrible friends, 49:50 · I don't like this, this is not good. 49:52 · But I know that my Redeemer lives. 49:54 · And at the end, he will stand on the dust. 49:55 · And then he picks back up, 49:57 · ending so far as in the end of chapter 21, 49:59 · he says, so how could you offer me such futile comfort? 50:03 · Your answers are deceptive. 50:06 · He is saying, in the middle of this speech 50:09 · about all the difficult things, 50:10 · and he's going back and forth, 50:11 · he has this one little moment where he pops out and he says, 50:16 · but I know that my Redeemer lives. 50:19 · And at the end, he will stand on the dust. 50:22 · What it reminds us of is the reality 50:25 · that we may well find times in our personal lives 50:29 · where there's little moments that shape our faith. 50:32 · It's this little moment here in Job 19, 25 50:36 · where we see hope sprout, where there's nothing else. 50:40 · As a matter of fact, he would even say, 50:42 · where then is my hope? 50:43 · Who can see any hope for me? 50:45 · But then he demonstrates hope just a chapter later. 50:49 · It's this wrestling in his faith 50:52 · that you and I can so easily connect with. 50:56 · If it were easy to be a Christian, 50:59 · we wouldn't need to gather on Sundays. 51:00 · We could just wake up, 51:02 · decide to be the perfect Christians and go forward. 51:03 · However, we constantly wrestle. 51:06 · As a matter of fact, Job would say this in verse 22, 51:08 · why do you persecute me as God does? 51:10 · Will you never get enough of my flesh? 51:12 · He's still wrestling. 51:14 · But then in verse 25, 51:15 · but I know that my Redeemer lives. 51:18 · And at the end, he will stand on the dust. 51:21 · The hope for you and I today 51:23 · is the same thing that Job learned. 51:26 · It's that even when the odds are stacked against us, 51:30 · even when there is destruction and ashes and rubble 51:33 · and dust, as he would say, 51:37 · our Redeemer still lives. 51:40 · And it's this little moment of clarity 51:42 · that pops up as vital in Job's story. 51:46 · So really, it begins to offer us, I think, a question. 51:51 · And the question is centered around 51:53 · some other interactions that we see in Scripture. 51:55 · As we think about little moments 51:57 · that have shaped our faith, 51:58 · I go back to looking at other places in Scripture 52:01 · where little moments, even short moments, 52:04 · have shaped individual's faith. 52:07 · As you think about Job here, 52:08 · it's just a one-sentence blip of faith 52:10 · that pops up on the radar. 52:12 · But here's what we also see. 52:14 · When Jesus is on the cross, 52:18 · surrounded by two sinners, 52:20 · it's one sinner on the cross 52:22 · that has a moment of clarity, a moment of faith, 52:25 · and it's Jesus that then turns to him and says, 52:28 · today you will be with me in paradise. 52:31 · It's a moment of clarity, a moment of faith 52:34 · that can change everything. 52:35 · Job demonstrates it here. 52:36 · The man on the cross has demonstrated it. 52:39 · We see it all throughout Scripture. 52:41 · And so what I wanna remind you of today 52:43 · is this key question. 52:46 · Where are the moments of clarity for you? 52:48 · And what do they reveal? 52:50 · Where are the moments of clarity for you 52:52 · and what do they reveal? 52:53 · Let's sit back and think about our lives for a moment. 52:56 · What are the moments of clarity? 52:58 · Well, think about your life and mine. 53:01 · There are plenty of seasons 53:03 · where as we look back on the history of our lives, 53:06 · we identify with Job. 53:08 · Maybe not to this extent. 53:10 · But as we look back, we may find that there are seasons 53:12 · where it seems like all of the pieces don't fit. 53:16 · That it's all rubble, it's all darkness, 53:18 · it's all struggle. 53:20 · However, these moments of clarity 53:23 · are little moments where we're reminded, 53:26 · it's not that bad. 53:28 · God's still in control. 53:31 · It's this reminder that Job has a blip on the radar, 53:34 · but something that really reveals 53:36 · the thread of his faith 53:38 · that is carried throughout everything. 53:40 · I think of wildfires. 53:42 · And here in Arizona, we're familiar, 53:44 · all too familiar with wildfires. 53:46 · Here's one of the things that's incredible to see, 53:49 · you've probably seen this, 53:50 · is the tragedy that happens when wildfires go through. 53:55 · Everything gets burned. 53:56 · But one of the things that happens post wildfire 54:00 · is there's oftentimes growth that happens 54:03 · pretty quickly after these wildfires. 54:05 · And you'll see little pieces of green 54:07 · that sprout up in the remnants of the fire. 54:10 · The ashes, if you will, 54:12 · these pieces of green begin to, 54:13 · after a short season, pop up. 54:16 · And it's a reminder in these moments of clarity 54:18 · that you and I also spiritually 54:20 · can have moments of clarity as well. 54:22 · Moments where even in the middle of the destruction 54:24 · and the ashes of life, 54:26 · where as Job would put it, 54:27 · the dust, we still can hold onto our faith. 54:31 · So the question is, 54:33 · where are the moments of clarity for you 54:34 · and what do they reveal? 54:36 · For us, the moments of clarity are the moments, 54:39 · sometimes short moments, 54:40 · where we step in and realize our Redeemer lives. 54:45 · I would encourage you today to cultivate moments 54:48 · where you are reminded that your Redeemer lives. 54:50 · Some of us need more reminders than others. 54:52 · We need reminders that our Redeemer lives. 54:54 · That's why I'll always encourage you 54:57 · to read your Bible. 54:58 · It's helpful for you 54:59 · because it cultivates these moments of clarity 55:01 · where we can be reminded of the truth 55:03 · that's found in Scripture, 55:05 · the truth that Job found here, 55:06 · that his Redeemer lives. 55:10 · And these moments reveal the faith 55:12 · that will get us through the difficult times. 55:15 · You see, Job didn't do this all on his own. 55:17 · His friends, even the friends he was adversarial with, 55:20 · are pushing him in his faith. 55:21 · They're helping him to grow in his faith. 55:23 · And what it reveals is that God is often shaping us 55:28 · and growing things in us 55:30 · even when we don't see the results. 55:34 · Coincidentally enough, 55:35 · I've been doing research about how bones heal. 55:39 · If you know, you know, it's a thing. 55:42 · Particularly, bones in the hand, how they heal. 55:45 · And I've learned, thanks to AI, 55:48 · all of the processes by which doctors go in 55:51 · and figure out how they're going to set up 55:53 · the healing process 55:53 · or how they're gonna walk through this process. 55:56 · And here's the thing that I've learned 55:57 · about bones in the hand and the way they heal. 56:00 · The first week is typically just assessment phase 56:03 · where the bones are just, you know, 56:06 · you take pictures via x-ray, 56:07 · you kind of figure out where things are. 56:09 · And then what happens is from week one through three, 56:13 · which is the season I find myself in, 56:15 · is the season where the entry is kind of put on pause. 56:19 · And it's this observation period 56:21 · where nothing externally is really happening. 56:25 · Everything's sort of covered up and we wait. 56:29 · We're not doing anything, 56:30 · except drinking lots of milk 56:32 · because apparently calcium. 56:34 · But it's in this process 56:35 · where it seems like you're just waiting. 56:37 · Nothing's happening. 56:39 · That gets you from week one until week three. 56:41 · And here's what happens between week three and four. 56:44 · Doctors go in and take an x-ray 56:46 · and here's what they're able to show. 56:48 · It's weeks two, three, and into four 56:50 · where the healing process begins. 56:53 · While sometimes there's nothing visible, 56:55 · the circumstances don't seem good. 56:57 · It doesn't seem like it's just instantly fixed. 57:00 · There's things happening internally 57:01 · that are shaping those bones, 57:04 · that are healing those bones. 57:07 · Our bodies naturally begin to send in the nutrients 57:09 · needed to help the body repair the bone. 57:12 · And it's the fact that there's things growing 57:15 · even when we don't see it 57:17 · that remind us that even in these moments of clarity, 57:21 · as we face difficult situations, 57:24 · as Job's friends look at him, they don't see faith. 57:27 · As a matter of fact, his friend would say 57:28 · in chapter 17, LFS, or 15, excuse me, 57:31 · you undermine the fear of God. 57:33 · There's no faith in you. 57:35 · You're not doing this thing. 57:37 · But it's in chapter 19, 25 57:38 · that we see Job's faith pop up, 57:41 · even if for just a moment. 57:42 · I wanna encourage you today 57:45 · that a moment of faith, even a quick moment, 57:49 · can change everything. 57:49 · Let me pray for you today. 57:51 · God, we come before you. 57:55 · And God, as we look at the story of Job 57:57 · in this second series of speeches, 58:00 · God, our prayer today is that you would help us 58:02 · to understand what moments of clarity 58:04 · we're facing in our daily lives. 58:06 · Moments where in honesty and vulnerability, 58:09 · we can step into faith like Job does 58:12 · even when the odds don't seem in our favor, 58:16 · even when the results don't seem 58:17 · like they're going to work out for us, 58:19 · even when it seems like the relationship 58:20 · isn't gonna work out. 58:21 · God, we know that at the end of the day, 58:25 · you are our Redeemer, and our Redeemer lives. 58:30 · And so God, today our prayer is collectively 58:33 · that as we seek you in the difficulty, 58:37 · in the moments of life, 58:40 · you would help us to live in light 58:41 · of these moments of clarity 58:42 · that we're reminded our Redeemer lives. 58:45 · And then ultimately, God, those moments of clarity 58:47 · would shape our future. 58:50 · That you'd help us to be strengthened 58:51 · to be able to face tomorrow 58:52 · knowing that our Redeemer lives. 58:55 · That the same truth that Job found here 58:58 · would also be the truth that we cling to today, 59:01 · and that it would be the thing that sustains us 59:03 · in the seasons we find ourselves in. 59:06 · God, we pray all this in your name. 59:07 · Amen. 59:08 · Let's stand as we continue in worship. 59:12 · I am an instrument of exaltation 59:21 · And I was born to lift your name above all myths 59:26 · You hear the melody of all creation 59:35 · But there's a song of praise that only I can bring 59:41 · Who else is worthy? Who else is worthy? 59:49 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 59:55 · Who else is worthy? Who else is worthy? 1:00:03 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:00:10 · You are the infinite God of the angels 1:00:17 · Yet you chose to make my heart to dwell in your name 1:00:23 · You healed my brokenness, showed me your glory 1:00:31 · So why are songs of praise not even angels? 1:00:37 · Who else is worthy? Who else is worthy? 1:00:45 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:00:51 · Who else is worthy? Who else is worthy? 1:00:59 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:01:06 · Who else is worthy? Who else is worthy? 1:01:13 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:01:20 · Who else is worthy? Who else is worthy? 1:01:27 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:01:35 · The Lamb of God, anointed one 1:01:39 · Who lies in peace, pleased to come 1:01:43 · Seated on the throne of love 1:01:46 · Holy, holy 1:01:50 · The righteous one who shed his blood 1:01:53 · You proved to us the Father's love 1:01:57 · Jesus Christ, he lives in love 1:02:00 · Holy, holy 1:02:03 · The Lamb of God, anointed one 1:02:07 · Who lies in peace, pleased to come 1:02:11 · Seated on the throne of love 1:02:14 · Holy, holy 1:02:18 · The righteous one who shed his blood 1:02:21 · You proved to us the Father's love 1:02:25 · Jesus Christ, he lives in love 1:02:28 · Holy, holy 1:02:32 · The Lamb of God, anointed one 1:02:35 · Who lies in peace, pleased to come 1:02:39 · Seated on the throne of love 1:02:43 · Holy, holy 1:02:46 · The righteous one who shed his blood 1:02:49 · You proved to us the Father's love 1:02:53 · Jesus Christ, he lives in love 1:02:58 · Who else is worthy? Who else is worthy? 1:03:06 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:03:12 · Who else is worthy? Who else is worthy? 1:03:20 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:03:26 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:03:33 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:03:56 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:03:59 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:04:23 · There is no one, only you, Jesus 1:04:54 · Thank you for watching! 1:05:24 · Thank you for watching! 1:05:54 · Thank you for watching! 1:06:24 · Thank you for watching! 1:06:54 · Thank you for watching! 1:07:24 · Thank you for watching! 1:07:38 · you 1:08:08 · you 1:08:38 · you 1:09:08 · you 1:09:38 · you 1:10:08 · you 1:10:38 · you 1:11:08 · you 1:11:38 · you 1:12:08 · you 1:12:38 · you 1:13:08 · you 1:13:38 · you 1:14:08 · you 1:14:38 · you 1:15:08 · you 1:15:38 · you 1:16:08 · you 1:16:38 · you 1:17:08 · you
