I’m pleased to announce that we have voted to change our name to Cross Church! A name that better reflects our vision and values. A name that reminds us that our number one objective is to get people to the cross.
This change represents an even bigger change in our church culture. This name brings with it a new mantra. That new mantra is “Cross Church Cares”.
The newsletter for our church will be known as “Cross Church Cares.”
We are even making our new website address www.crosschurchcares.com.
Let’s face it, we live in an increasingly post-Christian culture. Russell Moore in his book, Onward: Engaging the Culture Without Losing the Gospel says, “The bible-belt is teetering toward collapse.”
He’s saying that we live in a post-Christian culture where the trappings of yesterday’s church may not be effective in reaching today’s world.
So I pray our new name will reflect a church that is willing to do whatever it takes to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our world.
Yes, this name change is a big turn. However, I’m praying that it will be a big turn that takes us into the world of lostness not away from it. And much of this big turn hinges on our new initiative called, “Cross Church Cares.”
Will you join me in looking for ways that we can demonstrate the love of Jesus through our “Cross Church Cares” initiative? Will you look for ways each week to take to gospel to those around you?
The very first initiative of #crosschurchcares is our Houston mission trip. Pray for the 14 people from our church that will literally be the hands and feet of Jesus to those who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Thanks for letting me serve as your Pastor and I can’t wait to see where God leads us as we make caring for our community job one!
